Let it never be forgotten that Ninja Theory's original DmC was a trash fire. Another thing DMC3 had above was the Vergil final fight over DMC4's terrible big statue final battle. It limited your combat possibilities as there were usually very specific ways you had to deal with them. DMC4 suffered a bit with the enemies that were designed with the being taken down with the devil bringer being more of a pain in the ass to deal with as Dante than they needed to be.
Now DMC3 had some strengths over DMC4 mostly in the obvious story department but also in the enemy design.
It's DMC4SE > DMC3SE > DMC4 > DMC3 > DmC:DE > DMC > DmC > DMC2. Hence why DmC lands squarely in the middle of the pack. Sure the main story wasn't finished and repeats half way through but I think the actual gameplay and amount of content edges out 3 just a bit for me.ĭevil May Cry 4 SE is clearly the mechanics winner here and for a DMC game that's all that really counts. Plus with Dante, his styles are mapped to buttons on the fly now. Hitting L2 after sword swings almost becomes a rhythm game. But with max act, you are constantly unleashing awesome powered up moves. I never liked revving up the sword because it takes like 7 seconds and that's not good in the heat of a fight. His engine blade with the max act ability kind of changes the game and opens up new possibilities. Nero is an absolute blast to play and I only just realized it. I mean, how could I prefer 4 when the main story literally repeats itself half way through? Well, I've been playing lots of 4 and I think I think differently now. Since I played it, I've always said DMC3 is my favorite character action game ever made. I think I might like DMC4 SE more than 3. I've also been playing DMC4 SE again as well, which I've had since it came out about 3 years ago. DMC5 is coming up so I'm gearing up and getting pretty hype for the return of my favorite character action franchise. Recently I bought the DMC HD collection (again) but this time for PS4.
